Defensive Demons

As the Lutheran High Mustangs gather along the first base line,
and prepare to play the Comfort Bobcats,
a truck pauses at the stop sign in right center field
and waits to accelerate until the final note
of the national anthem sounds.
We are in fly over country,
and the still cool air beckons us to "play ball."

Elsewhere, the devil followed the Cubs to Georgia
and his six piece band of demons played their way
to the worst defensive game since 1982.
The opening note was a shrill dropped fly ball,
followed hard upon by a tremendous boom
from the woodwind section. And then,
the rest of the minstrels chimed in
until each infielder played their part,
and the Braves triumphed
as the Cubs defiled the defensive art.
