Almost 27

27 years since we went

27 for 27 shutout innings -

Not quite so far back

as Tinker to Evers to Chance,

but it was not to be in the ninth,

as Arizona trickled in a run,

and 27 innings became an unmentioned 26,

even though the staff had gone 31

even while Kyle fanned 11,

he let one slip away,

and lost a streak of his own -

6,662 straight pitches

without the wild side.

Nonetheless, Bryant found two RBI’s

on a wind aided double,

hopefully rebuilding his swing from the rubble,

as the Cubs hit .500, and rejoin the central struggle.
